Choosing a length

43cm (17") sits at the collarbone and shows above most necklines. 45cm (17.7") falls just below it and layers well with a shorter chain. 60cm (23.6") clears the head without a clasp, which is why scapulars and devotional pieces use it.

Chain construction

Box and Venetian links lie flat and resist kinking, which is what makes them last through daily wear. Rope and curb chains have more movement and catch light differently. For a heavy pendant, a flatter link holds its shape better over time.

Solid, not plated

Gold plating wears through at the clasp and at the back of the neck first — the two places a necklace rubs most. Everything here is solid gold throughout, so there is no base metal to reach.
